This week we’re taking a look at one of our favourite aspects of the working week, and that’s whiskey! Here at NightCap, we are truly honoured to be able to work alongside some of the biggest, most distinguished and downright tastiest whiskies this island has to offer.

While some of our Scottish cousins like to claim they invented the liquid gold, we all really know whiskey was created here in Ireland first! And, while a couple of things may have changed since those early days, a hell of a lot of tradition and heritage is preserved by some of the master distillers around the country. Working with brands like Powers on their ‘Old but Gold’ campaign, you can really see how tradition and innovation work hand in hand to create the perfect golden dram.

Powers

Powers are stalwarts in the Irish whiskey game that have been producing for over 200 years and put their history at the heart of everything they do, and the whiskey tastes just as good today as it did in the 1700s. They have been running their ‘Old but Gold’ campaign for the past couple years, and we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside this iconic brand for the last year. From bespoke tasting events, to pop-up trad bands, and seeding events in some of Northern Ireland’s most iconic pubs, we have worked with the Powers team to deliver some truly unique and incredible events.

Redbreast

Another brand we absolutely love working with is Redbreast. If you haven’t had the chance to try Redbreast, we’d highly recommend it because Redbreast are renowned for one thing: quality. Redbreast 12 is the whiskey we’re most familiar with, this classic pot still style is as complex as it is spicy. We’ve worked with redbreast in boutique shops, off-licences and venues throughout the North to provide custom tasting events. Next time you see us out and about, make sure you grab a tipple. 

Whiskey Cocktail Recipes

We couldn’t write a spotlight on whiskey without including a couple of our favourite whiskey cocktail recipes! You’ve GOT to give these a go:

The Irish Mule

This wee cocktail is so simple, but oh so refreshing. It’s the perfect drink to enjoy in the sun (if it ever decides to turn up). Here’s what’s happening: 

50ml Powers Gold Label

75ml Ginger Beer

BIG Squeeze of Lime

LOTS of Ice

Stir it down in a mug (preferably tin) and you’re good to go!

Classic Old Fashioned

Redbreast is a super complex, deep and rich whiskey.  The sort of whiskey you need to let speak for itself, and the best Redbreast cocktail has to be a classic old fashioned. 

50ml Redbreast 12

12.5ml Simple Sugar Syrup

3 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Orange Twist (garnish)

Stir this down with lots of ice for approximately 30 seconds, ensure you taste every 10 seconds to get the perfect level of dilution.
